Buyer Seller Overhaul

REALTOR.COM

Realtor.com is struggling to get users into the Sell experience funnel. We have a partner place where consumers can explore different ways to sell their homes. We have an experience called MyHome where a homeowner can track their home value and connect with an agent of their choosing when they are ready to sell. These experiences are hard to find, and it’s a complex flow between becoming a buyer and a seller.

Team behind the dream

6 designers (I lead), 3 eng, 5 pm, 1 design director, 3 VP (prodcut, eng, and design)

My Role

Lead designer - allow new designer to grow, lead strategic planning, partner with product partners to facilitate cross collaboration

Goal

Relieve the stress of buying and selling for our users. We need to deliver a seamless, guided experience across end to end real estate cycle. This will be a cross-squad/cross-functional buyer/seller experience reimagining.

Our approach

To kick off this initiative we needed to plan a cross-functional workshop. Design sprint-ish that was blown out of control. While I prepared the itinerary for the workshop and collaborated with the leaders to determine our goals and which exercise would help us achieve said goals, I had my design and research team built out artifacts like users journey and personas. The buy sell experience is far from linear. We felt it would be helpful to show the squads the complexity.

Ran a 4-day intensive remote workshop. I learned lots of things good and bad.

Mentored a designer along the way and let her work closely with research. I was there to help when the team got stuck.

We began the workshop by Defining the opportunity space. We then craft problem statements and end the day with solid assumptions and light sketches/ideas. On day three we created storyboards and flows that will be made into prototypes. By the end of the workshop, we walked away with four high level concepts.

Those concepts were then moved into moderatied user tests.

Leadership feedback to help direct the expereices.

Overall we walked away two one idea to ememdiated execute on and a second idea that needs a little more validation but we will start to test parts of the idea to check viability.
